LowSpec AI

About LowSpec AI

LowSpec AI is a directory of AI tools that run on hardware people already own — old laptops, mini PCs, NAS boxes, single-board computers. No GPU required, no cloud account required, no "just spin up an A100".

Why this exists

Search for "self-hosted AI" and you get two kinds of results: lists of tools with no hardware guidance at all, and tutorials that assume a machine costing more than the NAS you are trying to extend. Neither tells you whether the thing will actually run on two cores and 4 GB of RAM.

So every tool page here answers four questions in the same order:

  1. What does it do, in one sentence?
  2. What is the minimum hardware that produces a usable result?
  3. What breaks first when the hardware is small?
  4. What should I install instead if it does not fit?

How we verify

Each page carries a verification date and a source:

  • hands-on — we installed it and measured it on the reference box: an 8 GB, 2-core 2011-era laptop board running as a NAS. Numbers marked hands-on come from that machine, not from a vendor benchmark.
  • docs — read from official documentation, release notes and issue trackers. Reliable for minimum versions and features, not for speed.
  • vendor-claim — the publisher's own number, reproduced with attribution and treated with suspicion.

We re-check pages when a project ships a major release. Dates are visible on every page because a directory that hides its staleness is worse than no directory.

What we will not do

  • No star ratings invented from nothing. If a score appears, it is our editorial judgement and the reasoning is in the text.
  • No mass-produced pages for every combination of category, feature and platform. If a page exists, someone wrote it.
  • No paid placement disguised as an opinion. Sponsored entries are labelled and marked rel="sponsored".
  • No affiliate links without disclosure.

Affiliate disclosure

Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one, the retailer pays us a small commission and you pay exactly the price you would have paid anyway. It never changes a score, a ranking or a verdict.

The full explanation — which links are involved, which programs, what a commission never buys and how the cookies work — is on the affiliate disclosure page.

Who writes this

One person, running the tools on second-hand hardware, writing down what happened. That is the entire editorial process, and it is why the site grows slowly.

Contact

Corrections, complaints and maintainer objections all go to the same address, and it is read by a person:

  • Email — 352312766@qq.com
  • What gets a reply — factual corrections, hardware results that contradict ours, and licensing questions. One or two lines is enough.
  • What does not — link-exchange requests, guest-post offers, and anything that starts with "I noticed you have a website".

Corrections are welcome and taken seriously — especially from maintainers who think a page is unfair to their project.
